Out of the Blue (Box)

When I visited Tiffany’s website this morning, I was delighted to see a number of zodiac-themed baubles showcased on its homepage. Under the creative direction of Reed Krakoff, the personalization trend and astrology’s recent boom have converged into dozens of luxurious customizable options at the 180-year-old retailer. (Krakoff is best known for breathing new life into the staid Coach brand from 1996-2014.)

Krakoff took the iconic “Return to Tiffany” tag to the rifle range to create the Zodiac Round Tag Charm ($175), punctured with the zodiac sign of your choice – an irreverent update on a classic.

I’ve been a vocal fan of Krakoff’s Everyday Objects collection – with its $1,500 coffee can and $9,000 ball of yarn – since it debuted last fall. My fave is the pair of leather, walnut and sterling table tennis paddles, which run $700 plus personalization, which I'm envisioning to be in the form of large, glorious silver-foil zodiac symbols. More demure choices are the sterling clothespin ($525) and flowerpot ($725).

Quintessential pieces like lockets ($400-$2,000 plus chain), signet rings ($400-$3,400), ID bracelets ($525-$7,000) and a money clip ($180) can be engraved with your zodiac symbol for an additional $25. Zodiac-engraved cufflinks ($300-$3,450) would look smashing in the cuffs of a man’s or a woman’s shirt.

Additionally, the stunning Elsa Peretti® Zodiac pendants ($160 each) are characteristically fluid and sensuous.

The company's legendary Fifth Avenue flagship is slated begin a two-year total renovation next February. I can't wait to see what Krakoff has planned as he continues to write Tiffany's next chapter!
